American Canyon

American Canyon is primarily a middle-income residential community roughly 4.77 square miles in size, and is bounded by the Napa River to the west; foothills to the east; the city of Vallejo to the south; and vineyards to the north. Committed to providing a high quality of life for its residents, the city has a strong tax base, practices managed growth, and is creating a green belt around its borders.

There are more than 58 developed and 28 undeveloped acres of parkland in town, complete with picnic areas, walking paths, hiking trails, sports fields and play areas. A Community Center, complete with a state-of-the-art aquatic facility, was completed in 1998, and a Napa County library branch opened in 2001.

Four shopping centers on Highway 29 offer restaurants, retail, medical facilities, financial institutions and other enterprises and the Green Island Industrial Park at the north end of town houses numerous warehouses and specialty industries, including G.L. Mezzetta and AmCan Beverages. A new Town Center is in the planning stages, with approval anticipated in 2008.

In 2002, residents celebrated American Canyon's 10th anniversary as an incorporated city.

A wide assortment of housing exists in American Canyon, mostly in the form of single family homes, and it is the last area in Napa County where there are still significant new housing opportunities.

As part of the Napa Valley Unified School District, American Canyon students have access to the award-winning New Tech High School and the Oxford School for Performing Arts. There are two elementary schools and a new middle school within the city, and a new public high school is planned. Napa Valley College and Solano Community College are both within 20 minutes of American Canyon.
