U.S. Executive Branch

President George W. Bush: Total compensation package of $400,000 includes a $50,000 expense allowance.

Vice President Dick Cheney: $186,300 base salary.

U.S. Congress

According to www.about.com, members of Congress are allowed to make an additional maximum 15 percent of their salary from outside sources such as speaking, legal practice and consulting. In addition, they are allowed unlimited income from book royalties. Leaders of the House and Senate are paid more than rank-and-file members. Members of Congress receive retirement and health benefits under the same plans available to other federal employees. They become vested after five years of full participation.

U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer: $150,000 base salary.

U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein: $150,000 base salary.

U.S. Congressman Doug Ose: $150,000 base salary.

U.S. Congressman George Miller: $150,000 base salary.

California Legislature
