President George W. Bush: $400,000 salary and $50,000 non-taxable allowance.
Vice President Dick Cheney: $208,100 salary and $10,000 taxable allowance.
Cabinet members: $180,100 salary.
According to information posted at www.thecapitol.net, members of Congress are allowed to earn up to 15 percent of their salary from outside sources, with some restrictions.
All members pay into the Social Security and Medicare systems. Depending on when they were first elected to Congress, members may have a choice of retirement plans. They may also participate in the Thrift Savings Plan, for which the government pay contribute from 1 percent to 5 percent in matching funds
Members of Congress receive health benefits available to other federal employees. The government's contribution to those benefits could not be determined, but generally it pays 75 percent of the premium.
Representatives receive staff allowances that can be used to hire up to 18 permanent and four non-permanent aides. Up to $75,000 of staff funds can be transferred to the Representative's official expense account.
Senator's personal staff allowances vary with the size of the members' state.
Congressional members receive expense allowances to cover domestic travel, stationery, newsletters, overseas postage, telephone services and other expenses. They also have a franking privilege, which allows them to mail official letters and packages at no charge.
Foreign travel for government business is covered by other allowances.
Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein and Reps. George Miller, Dan Lungren and Ellen Tauscher: Compensation packages of at least $181,953 to $202,702 include $162,100 base salary, $6,885 Social Security and Medicare contribution, from $12,968 to $25,612 retirement contribution, and up to $8,105 in matching funds for a defined contribution plan.
Note: Earlier this month, Congress accepted a 2 percent pay raise. Those figures will be reflected in next year's survey.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenneger: The governor has declined his $175,000 salary.
State Sens. Wesley Chesbro and Mike Machado and Assemblywoman Lois Wolk: $99,000 salary and $153 per diem while the Legislature is in session Note: On Dec. 5, a 12 percent raise took effect for legislators, boosting salaries to $110,880. That figure will be reflected in next year's survey. While Assemblywoman Lois Wolk is entitled to the $153 per diem while the Legislature is in session, she has consistently declined to take it.

In addition to the following compensation packages, managers are eligible for an annual performance award for service. The awards average $800, and the one-time payment is based on evaluation of performance. Department heads are evaluated annually and performance pay up to 5 percent is determined by the City Manager.
Employees hired after July 1985 are not eligible for longevity pay.
Vacation is accrued at the following rate: 10 days for managers and 15 days for department heads for the first five years of service; 15/20 days for six to 10 years; 16/21 days after 11 years; 17/22 days after 12 years; 18/23 year after 13 years; 19/24 days after 14 years; and 20/25 days after 15 years. The city manager and city attorney receive 25 days per year. There is no cash-out option.
Managers accrue 12 days of sick leave per year. Those who have accrued at least 30 days of sick leave and who use less than four in any one year may cash out up to six days once each year.

Managers other than elected officials are eligible for vacation and sick leave as follows: All Managers receive 12 days of sick leave annually and can cash out 25 percent of unused sick leave accrued each year.
General managers accrue vacation leave at 10 days per year, up through three years of service; 15 days for four through 10 years; 20 days for 11 through 19 years; and 25 days beginning in year 21.
Executive managers and the city manager accrue vacation leave at 10 days per year, up through three years of service; 15 days for four through 10 years; 20 days for 11 through 24 years, and 30 days beginning in year 25. They also accrue another 11.6 leave days per year. Department heads may convert vacation accrual to cash.
Managers also are allowed to contribute to a cafeteria plan that covers IRS-approved medical and/or dependent care expenses.
Meals related to training, meetings and/or conferences are reimbursed at actual cost. Mileage is reimbursed at the actual miles traveled, times the federal mileage rate. Employees who receive auto allowance are not reimbursed for mileage.
The city does not offer longevity pay or management incentives.
When vision care is not covered by the health insurer, the city will reimburse an employee up to $300 per year for vision expenses.
