Meet Pam Spering, Behind the scenes of live theater
Nominated by: Ann Miller
Explain how the nominee makes a difference in our community: "Pam Spering has introduced thousands of Solano children to the magic of live theatre, an art form that can only be experienced - there is no way to preserve or record it," said Ann Miller. "Many of them would not have had that opportunity without her."
Not only is she out front drawing children into the theater, Spering works tirelessly behind the scenes, finding affordable housing for theater groups, providing free rehearsal space for them and "serving as an all-around theatre-ombudsman," Miller said.
How long have they been involved in this endeavor? More than 20 years.
What's the reward for the community? "Solano County has an unusually professional and accomplished theater scene. There are a number of residents who have gone on to professional careers who got their start in one program or another that has been supported by Pam Spering, behind the scenes," Miller said. "But the most important contribution is to all the children who did not become professionals, but had an opportunity to learn about theater, and to experience and appreciate it."
